What is a Legal Paternity Test?

If you find yourself involved in a matter involving child custody, child support, immigration, or other legal matters where establishing biological parentage is essential, you need a legal paternity test. Here’s why..

It’s Admissible in court

Legal paternity testing is performed following strict protocols and procedures to ensure that the test results are admissible in court.

The testing process, sample collection, and documentation comply with legal requirements and regulations to maintain the integrity and credibility of the results.

It’s requires a Paper trail

In this case, paperwork is a good thing. Any legal paternity test involves what’s called a chain-of-custody. This is simply the documentation that tracks the DNA samples throughout the testing process to ensure their integrity and authenticity form mouth-to-court.

This documentation is crucial for establishing the admissibility of test results in legal proceedings.

There’s no DIY

As convenient as drug store & mail order paternity tests are, they cannot be used for legal cases. With legal paternity testing, sample collection must be performed by a neutral third party … like us.

This helps to ensure an unbiased collection, adherence to legal requirements, and the proper documentation of the sample collection process.

Non-invasive, Legal Paternity Testing

Getting a court admissible DNA paternity test in Massachusetts has never been easier (or less painful).

At NoDoubt DNA Testing we have a simple 3-step process to keep your appointment as hassle-free as possible. The entire paternity test (at our office) lasts less than 30 minutes from start to finish.

Step #1: Sample Collection

The first step is to collect DNA samples from the alleged father, child and (if possible) the mother. Cheek swabs (aka a buccal collection) are used to capture DNA. Upon collection the samples will be packaged and shipped overnight to our AABB partner laboratory for analysis.

If this is a legal paternity test, the following will also be performed…

> Completed chain-of-custody documentation

> Photographs of all parties being tested.

>Inclusion of case materials…

Step #2: Laboratory Analysis

Upon receiving the samples, the laboratory will extract the DNA and begin the analysis process. DNA from the child will be compared to that of the alleged father using specific genetic biomarkers. These markers will be compared between the child, mother and alleged father to establish the statistical likelihood of biological relatedness.

Step #3: Results Interpretation

Once the analysis is completed, the laboratory generates a detailed report with the test results. The report typically includes the probability of paternity or exclusion of paternity, along with any other relevant findings or observations.

Legal paternity testing reports may also include additional information required for legal purposes, such as documentation of sample collection, chain of custody, and laboratory accreditations.

The final step is interpretation of the test results:

> In cases where the alleged father is confirmed to be the biological father, the test result will indicate a high probability of paternity (usually 99.9% or higher).

> If the test result excludes the alleged father as the biological father, it will be stated with 100% certainty.

> The DNA testing company may provide assistance in interpreting the results and addressing any questions or concerns that arise.
